ARSION COMPLETE ARSION Vol. 1 7/21/98

THE FINAL STARLIGHT:
Yumi Fukawa (0-11-1) vs. Rie Tamada (6-6-2)

This match didn't have much direction or focus. It was basically AJW style spot wrestling, except with more submissions. The match was fast-paced and exciting, but somewhat lacking in flow. Fukawa's selling was quite good, but the pace was too fast to put much over. Unfortunately, her flying wasn't all that impressive. Fukawa got the win out of nowhere with an udehishikigyakujujigatame. This was a much needed win for Fukawa because, as you can see, her singles record was absolutely disgraceful. Having her get the win over Rie was important because it's the first step in showing they are equals, which is actually a joke since Fukawa, even at this point, was much better and the gap has only widened considerably since. TamaFuka stood with their backs to each other after the match to symbolize they had gone their separate ways.

Miko: This was more of a fast-paced, pro style match than we usually saw in ARSION at this point. Yumi and Rie really went at it, trading flying moves, strikes, and working submissions. Rie used her rolling elbow and went for her Dragon suplex, but Yumi pulled off the win with a jujigatame. I liked how they did the finishing spot, with Yumi taking Rie down into the jujigatame, but it looked like Rie would be able to block it because she managed to lock her hands together. We've seen this used to stop the submission quite a few times, but this time Yumi managed to break the block and force the submission.

Jerome: It was a good match, with a AJW-esque taste to it. Rie was on offense a lot, with Fukawa positioned as the underdog. There were some sloppy spots, like a blown swinging DDT and some weak shots, but the work was mainly good. Although Rie worked on Yumi's injured shoulder for a while, it didn't build to anything, and the end of the match was typical AJW spots, with some really good missile dropkicks and suplexes. Rie was definitly in working mode this day, and her flying was actually better than Fukawa's. The end indeed came from nowhere, but Rie sold the jugigatame very well, and like Miko said, the way she tried to block the hold was neat. I thought it came off a little weak after the last match, because of the difference in style, but it was still enjoyable.
