WOWOW Special Match
JWP Junior Senshuken Jiai:
Tomoko Kuzumi vs. Tomoko Miyaguchi

Everything in this match was done fast; the spots, the counters, the transitions, were all lightning speed. They did all kinds of complicated sequences, mainly counter upon counter to show that they were equal. On a few occasions they would even counter the counter of the counter. Sometimes they got a little ahead of themselves, and overall the execution could have been a little better. However, when the sequences reach this level of complexity, I have no problem cutting them a little slack on their execution.

That slack doesn't extend to the selling, which needed to be better. They could have found ways to sell without slowing the pace down, but instead they pretty much disregarded that aspect. This match wasn't quite as good as I remembered it being. There was nothing beyond the work and the spots, which were choice. Even though it lacked diversity, it was still an excellent match where both women gave the best performances of their careers. The sad thing about that was at the time, these two seemed to have all the potential in the world. Now, you have to shake your head and wonder what happened because they never worked on this level again. Anyway, this was a one-dimensional match. I could write a page describing the cool moves because that is the dimension this excelled in, but it's better for you (and less time consuming for me) if you just sit back and enjoy this match for what it was.

Miyaguchi finally pinned Kuzumi with her nadare shiki no blockbuster to become the 6th JWP Junior champ. She was really emotional about finally capturing singles gold. In reality, just about the only reason she won the title was that they needed to get it off Kuzumi in order to elevate her. The problem for Miyaguchi is that she was Kuzumi's peer and needed to be elevated as well to stay on that level, so this title really wasn't doing much for her. Due to JWP's depth being depleted, this division really outlived it's usefulness because the fab four needed to be pushed as stars and there was no one behind them that could even have a decent match, much less have matches worthy of the title. 17:47 (9:47 aired).
