WOWOW SPECIAL SINGLE MATCH
Queen vs. Queen:
Hikari Fukuoka vs. Tomoko Kuzumi

This was another disappointing match between the two, largely due to the fact that Hikari can't carry a match. It was just pathetic how little Hikari was able to get out of such a talented worker. Kuzumi is the kind of opponent a true great would dream of wrestling because she can work with the best of them, so you just have to figure out how to maximize that strength. It's why Liger will always have a great match with Koji if they are trying to, while Otani vs. Koji might be **** because of the work and spots or ** because they are goofy kids delivering illogically ordered spots and engaging in retarded no selling.

The weak comebacks, as well as the lack of selling and psychology really took the match down. Basically when the did their high spots it was excellent, but the bridge too them was pathetic. It didn't help any that Kuzumi got hurt during the match, seemingly from hitting her head hard on the floor taking Hikari's tope con hilo off the apron, which also hurt the hot portion of the match. She was eventually pinned following Hikari's zenpo (frontward) kaiten (revolution) shiki (style) missile kick.

Kuzumi desperately needs a veteran to show her how to take things to the next level, a Tsuruta to Misawa, but JWP at this point doesn't have anyone that can do it. This was supposed to be where they took it to the next level, but they couldn't even maintain their previous level. For that matter, this was couple notches down from their 6/8/97 match.

Jason: I was disappointed by this match due to the lack of intensity from both wrestlers. I didn't expect much in the way of selling or psychology. You would expect Fukuoka to be able to build the match in a logical fashion by this point, but for whatever reason it doesn't happen. I did expect the match to take off in the fast-paced style that Fukuoka and Kuzumi use, but it didn't do so to the extent I expected. Kuzumi bumping her head didn't help because the match slowed down in the middle of a hot stretch. They never regained the flow after this point, so in my mind the match just kind of fizzled out. At this point in time, I think everybody expected more form these two.
