Aja Kong & Bison Kimura
vs.
Bull Nakano & Grizzly Iwamoto

Intense, violent brawl. They really clocked each other with objects, with Bull being particularly vicious. This match was mainly about the two monsters, Bull & Aja, showing how tough they were. They were building the rivalry up here, so they just took everything each other had to offer, usually without even being slightly phased. For what the match was, Bull was excellent because she was really stiff and she was dragging the opposition around and setting them up to play off her. The thing is, since she sold virtually nothing, she couldn't log that much ring time.

Bison & Grizzly were the workhorses here. They were good wrestling wise, but they were mainly in the ring getting killed the whole time. The main thing that separated the two was that Bison had more fire and charisma. That's the biggest reason why she became a fairly big star, while Grizzly blended in with the other freaky looking heels and wound up being forgotten about. Bison was definitely the better of the two in this match, but she also had a lot more to work with. She looked better in with Bull from a technical standpoint, doing of very good job of being the young punk that sticks up to the veteran without fear no matter how overmatched they might be. Aja was actually the worst wrestler in this match, but she had the push and only sold some of Bull's moves so she seemed a lot more special than a couple of women that simply fought hard and kept withstanding punishment.

I liked how they started the match with everyone getting in each others faces then the stare down broke into a pushing and slapping fight to start the match on an intense note. Bison was cut on the forehead early, but it didn't bleed very much so Bull hit it to open it up more. Bull was really stiff with Bison, and Bison showed a lot of fighting spirit by taking her blows and coming back for more.

After Bull was tired of beating on Bison, she threw Bison into her own corner so Aja would tag in. This was the matchup we'd been waiting for, so again we got the icy glances. Before Aja or Bull made a move at each other, Bison dropkicked Bull, which really ticked Bull off. Bull forgot about Aja and started putting the boots to Bison. Aja came over and tried to get Bull to fight her, but Bull just brushed her aside and laid the kicks into Bison. Bull & Aja wound up never fighting here, Grizzly tagged in and Bison eventually came back with one of her chops and tagged Aja, who dominated Grizzly with her size and strength.

The gimmicks came into play when Aja was beating on Grizzly, beginning with the famous oil can. Bison tagged back in quickly and tombstoned Grizzly "on a chair." Grizzly bladed, and Aja & Bison "bit the cut" until Bull stuck up for her understudy. Since Grizzly was hurting, Aja & Bison saw this as a good opportunity to double team Bull. Bull sold one move, which was virtually the only move she sold the whole match, before coming back by lariating them both. Bull gave Aja another lariat, but Aja just managed to stay on her feet then acted like King Kong to brag. Bull still no sold and bowled her over though. Grizzly bodyslammed Aja then Bull did her patented diving guillotine leg drop, but Aja was way too strong at this point to be pinned. In fact, Aja came right back with an uraken that was actually a straight arm because Bull was a lot further left than Aja's fist. Bull, of course, didn't sell it and took control.

Grizzly came back in and got beaten on until she used a Singapore cane. Of course, there was another cane and they were able to get the one Grizzly had away from her, so she didn't escape this without taking some punishment. Bull just stood there while Aja & Bison caned her as if they were hitting her with big fluffy pillows. When she tired of this, she took Bison's cane away and hit Aja with it until the thing was so broken up that it was no longer useful. Mind you, this wasn't a thin Sandbumb cane that breaks with one good shot, it was a big thick bamboo rod that only chips or breaks down at the "seams."

The finish came when Bull pulled Aja to the floor by her hair and started hitting her with a chair. Grizzly was in control of Bison at this point, but Bison came back with her chop and used a German suplex hold. Bull tried to reenter and make the save, but Aja cut her off with a headbutt and Grizzly was pinned. Although the finish came with little warning, it was good in the sense that Bull had gotten the better of Aja throughout the match, but Aja got a measure of revenge at the end, costing Bull the match.

The match worked because it made you want to see Aja and Bull beat on each other until they had to sell. Nothing was really accomplished in that regard here, but everyone did a good job of playing their roles and took a lot of punishment even though they all didn't put it over. This is not the kind of match that you could just roll out and have it be good because without the intense rivalry to back it up it's just a lot of moves that aren't sold like the U.S. hardcore matches, well, except that the actual wrestling was worlds better and there were two wrestlers that sold a lot. In this case, there was a reason for the no selling and it was obviously leading to the bigger and more important cage match where they would sell, so it was acceptable.
