5/26:

5/26 Niigata Shi Taiikukan 3,500 sellout

5/25:

5/25 Iwate Yahaba Chomin Sogo Taiikukan 1,600
Mitsuharu Misawa & Yoshinari Ogawa & Daisuke Ikeda defeated Steve Williams & Johnny Smith & George Hines when Ikeda Death Valley bombed Hines at 19:34. Misawa's elbow was injured during his tag match against No Fear on 5/23 to the point that he couldn't use it in this match. This sounds like an angle to give Misawa & Ogawa an out for losing to No Fear in the first round of the tag tournament on 6/9.
No Fear beat Stan Hansen & Erik Watts when Omori ax bombered Watts at 15:10.
Toshiaki Kawada & Akira Taue & Masao Inoue defeated Kenta Kobashi & Kentaro Shiga & Yoshinobu Kanemaru when Inoue made Kanemaru submit to his Argentine backbreaker at 21:08.

Steve Williams & Erik Watts dropped Kenta Kobashi & Kentaro Shiga when Williams pinned Shiga in his Dr. bomb at 14:57.

5/21:

5/21 Tokyo Korakuen Hall 2,100 sellout
Jun Akiyama & Maunakea Mossman & Makoto Hashi beat Kenta Kobashi & Kentaro Shiga & Yoshinobu Kanemaru when Hashi pinned Kanemaru at 20:15 following a diving headbutt. This was the first time Kobashi & Akiyama have wrestled since Akiyama said he wasn't interested in wrestling the present 3 crown king. Actually, even though they were in the same match, they were kept apart almost the whole time. Kobashi got excited about losing and demanded a tag match to settle their score since Akiyama won't face him for the singles titles. To entice Akiyama into accepting, Kobashi said he'd break up his Burning unit, which Akiyama seceeded from earlier this year, if his team was defeated. Akiyama has yet to respond.
In the main event, Toshiaki Kawada & Akira Taue defeated Steve Williams & George Hines when Kawada pinned Hines at 14:38 following his enzuigiri.
Mitsuharu Misawa & Yoshinari Ogawa beat Stan Hansen & Johnny Smith when Ogawa pinned Smith in his backdrop hold at 13:25.
Takao Omori pinned Daisuke Ikeda following his ax bomber at 15:09.

5/20:

They held a ceremony for Jumbo Tsuruta before the show with all the wrestlers lining up, and Mitsuharu Misawa, holding a Jumbo picture in his hand, saying a prayer.
Mitsuharu Misawa & Yoshinari Ogawa & Daisuke Ikeda beat Toshiaki Kawada & Akira Taue & Masao Inoue when Ogawa pinned Inoue in his backdrop hold at 23:17.
Stan Hansen & Johnny Smith downed Kenta Kobashi & Kentaro Shiga when Hansen took Shiga's head off with his western lariat at 17:20.
No Fear beat Johnny Ace & Erik Watts when Takayama used a genbakugatame on Watts at 18:07.
Jun Akiyama & Maunakea Mossman defeated Steve Williams & George Hines when Mossman used his Hawaiian crusher on Hines at 15:14

5/19:

Jumbo Tsuruta was buried today. The ceremony wasn't open to the public, just relatives, close friends, and All Japan wrestlers, so there were only about 100 people. Takao Omori wore the Y undershirt that Jumbo bought for him 5 years ago.

5/18:

Jun Akiyama revealed that Jumbo Tsuruta taught him the jumping knee bat in 1992. Tsuruta was going to participate in the tag league that year with Akira Taue, but had to bow out due to Hepatitis B, so the rookie Akiyama teamed with Taue instead. Although Jumbo couldn't compete, this at least reminded the fans of him. Akiyama feels keeping Jumbo's legend alive is more important now than ever, so he's going to keep doing the move in every match as a tribute to Jumbo and will also eventually teach it to the right young wrestler so the move can live on for another generation.

5/13:

They are trying to sell the Kenta Kobashi vs. Yoshihiro Takayama match on violence, so they are talking about the possibility of the TV version having to be edited for content, which would be unprecidented for All Japan.

5/11: The Force Was Not With Vader

Vader had his arm operation on 4/20 and had a follow up exam on 5/10 where he found out that it would be more than two months before he could return to the ring. He has a scaron his arm as well as some discoloration.

5/8: Takayama Intends To Break Kobashi's Lariat Arm

In one of those open to the press and public training sessions to garner publicity for his 5/26 title match, Yoshihiro Takayama demonstated a successive dangerous suplex on a dummy that he says will break Kobashi's (right) lariat arm. The suplex is called double shiki no front genboku (atomic bomb) suplex. In light of this, he gave notice of his intention to have a "cruel match" with Kobashi. He said he isn't there to do a clean match, he's there to win the titles and he's going to win by KO.

4/24: Takayama Tries To Be 5 Crown King

The title match against Kenta Kobashi that Jun Akiyama "didn't want" is off. The 6/9 Tokyo Nippon Budokan show will feature a four team One Night Tag Tournament for the Sekai Tag Senshuken. The first round matches are Mitsuharu MIsawa & Yoshinari Ogawa vs. No Fear and Toshiaki Kawada & Akira Taue vs. Johnny Ace. Kobashi will instead defend the Sankan Heavykyu Senshuken against Yoshihiro Takayama on 5/26 at Niigata Shi Taiikukan, which according to All Japan's web page is not a TV taping.

4/19:

All Japan will have a One Night Tag Tournament on 6/9 at Tokyo Nippon Budokan to crown the new tag champions. The participants in the tournament are expected to be Toshiaki Kawada & Akira Taue, Mitsuharu Misawa & Maunakea Mossman, No Fear, and Johnny Ace & Mike Barton. Kenta Kobashi and Jun Akiyama won't have teams in the tournament since they are in the main event triple crown match.

4/18:

Vader's injury (the angle is it's his arm) is keeping him out of the '00 Super Power Series, so he vacated the tag titles. It appears that Vader went into the Misawa match hurt, so they worked an angle where Misawa broke his arm to bring submissions back into the promotion. Finally! Hopefully they'll stick with this. Anyway, Vader is probably going to need surgery, so this may not be the only series he misses.

4/16:

Legendary second generation wrestler Eric Watts will be appearing on the '00 Super Power Series tour that runs from 5/20-6/9. Not only has Watts failed miserably everywhere he's gone, but he turns 33 this year, so it's not like he's got plenty of time to improve. They see 199cm and start drooling, but Watts isn't an ass kicker or even slightly imposing, so he wouldn't get over there if he was 25cm taller.

4/15:

Kobashi lariats Omori to win Champion Carnival from Nikkan Sports

4/15 Tokyo Nippon Budokan 16,300 sellout
Kenta Kobashi won the Champion Carnival for the first time in his career, pinning Takao Omori at 25:12 following two lariats. Omori attacked Kobashi's bad right knee and, to put Omori over, Kobashi said that he was about to give up on several occassions. Kobashi was shocked that Omori kicked out of his lariat at the 23 minute mark. Mercy disappeared from his heart after that, so he dropped Omori on his head with the turnbuckle powerbomb and half nelson German suplex. When asked about winning the tournament, he said it proved the triple crown champion was the strongest wrestler in the promotion. For winning the carnival, he got a 50 kilometer trophy to add to his collection. Even though Jun Akiyama lost to Omori in the first round, Kobashi still nominated his old partner to be the next challenger. Jun Akiyama hasn't been with the way Kobashi has been conducting himself of late and with the content of the Kobashi vs. Omori match, so he refused to accept Kobashi's nomination.
"The final was damn good. Omori's offense wasn't great, but he was fired up. Definitely an underdog favorite that seemingly people wanted to see win.The thing that amazed me was the kind of beating Omori took from Kobashi. Finally, he lived up to the moniker of 'No Fear' as he took some brutal head dropping bumps here. He took the corner powerbomb (twice because Kobashi messed it up so Omori's head didn't hit the turnbuckle the first time), and two spine killing half nelson release suplexes from Kobashi. I would've liked seeing Omori get a last 5 minutes in to make people believe in him again and to show some offense that would make what he does more credible, but the kind of beating he took from Kobashi I guess lead to the end. Omori tried playing it smart by assailing Kobashi's weak leg, but couldn't do enough to put Kobashi away with it. Still a pretty impressive effort by Omori; the fans around me were remarking that he did pretty well," wrote Keith.
Toshiaki Kawada & Akira Taue beat Steve Williams & Johnny Smith when Kawada powerbombed Smith at 16:01. Keith said this was good, but not great. Like Misawa, Kawada wasn't fired up because he wasn't in the Budokan main.
Mitsuharu Misawa pinned his partner Yoshinari Ogawa in his Tigerdriver at 13:21. Keith said that Misawa did a good job of working with Ogawa's poor AJ heavyweight offense. It was hardly the quality of his Budokan main events though.
Johnny Ace & Mike Barton defeated Jun Akiyama & Maunakea Mossman when Barton powerbombed Mossman at 12:30. This was supposed to be pretty good, but too short.

4/13:

4/13 Chiba Funabashi Arena 1,600
Toshiaki Kawada & Akira Taue & Masao Inoue defeated Steve Williams & Wolf Hawkfield & Johnny Smith when Inoue got the pin after Kawada delivered his enzuigiri.
No Fear beat Mitsuharu MIsawa & Daisuke Ikeda when Omori used his ax bomber on Ikeda at 14:41.

4/12:

4/12 Niigata Niitsu Shi Min Taiikukan 2,050
No Fear beat Kenta Kobashi & Kentaro Shiga when Takayama pinned Kobashi at 18:10 after Omori used his ax bomber then they gave him a high angle atomic bomb. This was done to try to give Omori more credibility going into the Carnival final. Omori wants to challenge for the Sankan Heavykyu Senshuken, Sekai Tag Senshuken. Also, junior No Fear member Satoru Asako should be coming back from his right knee injury, so Omori wants him to challenge for the junior title. Omori suggested that if he get his wishes, then they should change the name of the series from Super Power Series to Super No Fear Series.
In the main event, Steve Williams & Johnny Smith & Scorpio beat Mitsuharu Misawa & Yoshinari Ogawa & Daisuke Ikeda when Smith used his British fall (formerly called Smith shiki no reverse DDT) on Ikeda at 19:51.

4/11: Kobashi Wins The "Real" Final

4/11 Ishikawa-ken Sangyo Tenjikan 2,800 sellout
Kenta Kobashi pinned Mitsuharu Misawa at 26:08 to win the NFC bracket of the Champion Carnival and earn the right to beat Buffalo Omori on 4/15. Kobashi was nearly knocked unconscious from taking one brutal elbow after another, but instinctively was able to lariat Misawa and make the cover. Misawa went over to Kobashi after the match and requested a handshake, which may be a symbolic passing of the torch although Kobashi still hasn't beaten Misawa in a match for the Sankan Heavykyu Senshuken. It's seems anticlimactic that Kobashi has to win another match after finally eliminating Misawa from a Carnival, but in any case we are guaranteed a first time winner because Kobashi lost to Kawada in the triangular final in 1997 and Omori was all but mathematically eliminated every year after the first week.
Toshiaki Kawada & Akira Taue defeated Jun Akiyama & Maunakea Mossman when Taue used his nodowa otoshi on Mossman at 15:11.
No Fear beat Steve Williams & Scorpio when Omori used his ax bomber on Scorpio at 13:33

4/9:

4/9 Sendai Miyagi-ken Sports Center 3,200
In a major upset, Takao Omori advanced to the finals of the Champion Carnival when he used his ax bomber on Steve Williams at 10:33. Now Omori has one up on his "peer" that beat in 7 seconds, Akiyama, because the best Jun has done is draw Doc just before Doc left for the freakshow. This is a big step up for Omori, who never did better than 10th place in his five previous Carnivals, and one of the two years he was 10th was because there were only 10 guys. I like this result because at least they are trying to create a star rather than trying to relive 1994. The problem is the guy they chose Omori never had it and never will, but it's not like worse wrestlers haven't become stars in Japan.
In the main event, Mitsuharu Misawa & Yoshinari Ogawa & Daisuke Ikeda beat Kenta Kobashi & Tsuyoshi Kikuchi & Kentaro Shiga when Ogawa used his backdrop hold on Kikuchi at 22:08.

4/8: Vader May Vacate Due To Injury

4/8 Tokyo Korakuen Hall 2,1000 sellout
Toshiaki Kawada & Akira Taue beat Steve Williams & Wolf Hawkfield when Kawada pinned Wolf at 15:36 following an enzuigiri.
Mitsuharu Misawa & Yoshinari Ogawa defeated Jun Akiyama & Maunakea Mossman when Ogawa used his 4 no ji jackknifegatame (figure 4 jackknife hold) on Mossman at 15:11.
Kenta Kobashi advanced to the semifinals of the Champion Carnival Tournament, making Johnny Smith submit to an udegatame at 17:43. Maybe these guys finally rediscover submissions? This means the semifinals are Misawa vs. Kobashi and Williams vs. Omori.
Johnny Ace & Mike Barton & Scorpio downed Takao Omori & Yoshihiro Takayama & Daisuke Ikeda when Barton pinned Ikeda at 19:28 with Bart bash.

Vader returned to the US after the doctors in Matsumoto city diagnosed that Misawa's cross armbreaker fractured his arm. He'll be reexamined in the US to see if he needs surgery. Vader was supposed to defend the tag titles sometime during the '00 Super Power Series, which opens 5/20, so he would have to vacate if he can't return to the ring to defend them.

4/7:

4/7 Nagano Matsumoto Shi Sogo Taiikukan 2,400
Mitsuharu Misawa advanced to the semifinals of the Champion Carnival Tournament when destroyed Vader's elbow, leading to a submission win with an urajujigatame (reverse cross armbreaker) at 11:31. Misawa's attack was described as a cold-hearted destruction, as he broke two of Vader's teath and supposedly broke Vader's left arm. Vader went directly to the hospital after the match. Toshiaki Kawada & Akira Taue beat Steve Williams & Scorpio when Kawada made Scorpio submit to the stretch plum at 20:20.
Johnny Ace & Mike Barton beat Kenta Kobashi & Kentaro Shiga when Barton pinned Shiga at 15:03 in Bart bash bomb.

4/6:

4/6 Maebashi Gunma-ken Sogo Sports Center 1,800 sellout
Takao Omori advanced to the semifinals of the Champion Carnival Tournament when he ax bombered Mike Barton at 15:55.
Vader & Steve Williams & Johnny Smith beat Mitsuharu Misawa & Yoshinari Ogawa & Maunakea Mossman in the main event when Smith used a British fall (?) on Mossman at 17:49
Jun Akiyama pinned Shigeo Okumura at 8:54 following his exploder.

4/3:

Jun Akiyama is looking for wrestlers to join is 21st century group. He's exploring the idea of having maybe two or three guys he can team with in big matches instead of the regular group where his #2 would be the guy he was in all the big matches with and he'd only team with the other guys in six or eight mans or in less important matches. Maunakea Mossman is will be in it and is Akiyama's regular tag partner at least until the group expands.

4/2:

4/2 Wakayama Kenritsu Hashimoto Taiikukan 1,200
Jun Izumida couldn't wrestle due to a neck injury, so Steve Williams advanced to the semifinals of the Champion Carnival Tournament by default.
Since Williams had no opponent, he teamed with Vader & Johnny Smith in the main event to defeat Toshiaki Kawada & Akira Taue & Masao Inoue when Smith pinned Inoue at 15:15 after his reverse DDT.
Mitsuharu Misawa & Yoshinari Ogawa beat Kenta Kobashi & Kentaro Shiga when Ogawa pinned Shiga in his backdrop hold at 17:54. Previously Misawa would lose because Ogawa was no match for Akiyama, but now Kobashi is the one with the "weaker" partner.

4/1:

4/1 Okayama Budokan 2,800 sellout
Kenta Kobashi advanced to the second round of the Champion Carnival Tournament, pinning Johnny Ace following his lariat at 20:56.
In the main event, Vader & Steve Williams beat Mitsuharu Misawa & Yoshinari Ogawa in just 2:30 when Williams used his backdrop hold on Ogawa.

3/31: Kawada, Attendance Down

3/31 Hiroshima Sun Plaza 3,250
Mitsuharu Misawa advanced to the second round of the Champion Carnival Tournament, pinning Toshiaki Kawada with his emerald frowjion (sp?) in just 15:25. This was a stiff match, of course, with many heavy blows to the head, particularly stiff kicks to Misawa's face. This shows how poorly All Japan draws outside of Tokyo because their last two matches in Tokyo drew announced crowds of 58,300 (5/1/98 Tokyo Dome) and 16,300 (7/23/99 Nippon Budokan sellout), while their last two matches outside of Tokyo drew 6,350 (3/29/98 Nagoya Aichi-ken Taiikukan sellout) and 5,300 (1/22/99 Osaka Furitsu Taiikukaikan laughable claimed sellout in a building that can hold twice that but is usually configured for 6,100 range). This attendance is still alarmingly low because if they actually had 2,500 in the building, they probably would have claimed a sellout. The last time NJ was in this building on 11/1/99, they claimed a 5,200 sellout. AJ has run arenas in Hiroshima that hold 2,000+ the last few years, and unfortunately this wound up showing that they should have stayed in them.
This show didn't have much of an undercard, as Kentaro Shiga was in the semifinal, teaming with Kenta Kobashi to lose to Vader & Steve Williams when Vader chokeslammed him at 13:07.

3/30:

Vader kills Takayama with a lariat from Nikkan Sports

3/30 Osaka Furitsu Taiikukan 2 1,650
Vader advanced to the second round of the Champion Carnival Tournament, pinning Yoshihiro Takayama at 6:04 following 3 lariats in a row.
In the main event, Mitsuharu Misawa & Yoshinari Ogawa & Daisuke Ikeda beat Toshiaki Kawada & Akira Taue & Masao Inoue when Ogawa pinned Inoue in his backdrop hold at 20:49.
Steve Williams & Wolf Hawkfield & Scorpio defeated Kenta Kobashi & Kentaro Shiga & Yoshinobu Kanemaru when Scorpio used his 450 splash on Kanemaru at 21:26.

3/29:

3/29 Fukui Shi Taiikukan 2,000
Jun Izumida advanced to the second round of the Champion Carnival Tournament, pinning Wolf Hawkfield at 13:02.
In the main event, Johnny Ace & Mike Barton & Scorpio beat Mitsuharu Misawa & Yoshinari Ogawa & Tamon Honda when Barton used his Bart spike on Honda at 14:51.
Toshiaki Kawada & Akira Taue defeated Steve Williams & Johnny Smith when Kawada powerbombed Smith at 12:12
No Fear beat Jun Akiyama & Takeshi Morishima when Omori axe bombered Morishima at 11:38.

3/27: ECW-J Splits?

Kenta Kobashi had his bad right knee examined in a Nagoya city hospital before the 3/26 show. The doctor told him to take time off, but this is Kobashi so you know the story. About the same time last year, Kobashi tore a muscle, but kept fighting and was still able to make it to the Carnival final where he lost to Vader.

3/26: Omori Wins In Record Time

3/26 Nagoya Aichi-ken Taiikukan 6,000
Takao Omori proved everyone wrong by upsetting Jun Akiyama, the "favorite" to go to the finals of the Champion Carnival Tournament, just seven seconds into their first round match. This was the shortest Carnival match in history, breaking the record set by the late great Bruiser Brody when he beat Wayne "Honky Tonk Man" Ferris in 16 seconds on 3/27/81. It was nearly the shortest match in the history of Japan, but Takako Inoue over Miyuki Fujii from 10/11/99, Minoru Tanaka over Tsubo Genjin from 12/25/99, and Daisuke Iishi over Matsutatsu Yano from 1/23/00 were 6 seconds, while the infamous Jinsei Shinzaki over Magic Man from 1/14/98 holds the record at "5.49" seconds. What a way to push Akiyama coming off the biggest victory of his career. Heaven forbid we might think he was finally ready to surpass some people. Anyway, during the ring introductions, instead of taking his No Fear T-shirt off, Omori launched a surprise attack with a dropkick. Akiyama tried a kneebat and his exploder, but Omori turned the later into his axe bomber then hit two more axe bombers to score his first career singles win over Akiyama (even though they came up the ranks at the same time, Omori had lost their 9 previous meetings). It's good that Omori is getting pushed since they keep putting him in "big" matches even though he almost never wins one, but why at the expense of Jun, who it appeared the tournament was rightly built around. With Akiyama and either Misawa or Kawada being elimated in the first round, match quality is definitely going to be down this year. Especially since Akiyama's elimination would seem to open up a spot in the finals for washed up Steve Williams.
In the main event, Williams advanced to the quarterfinals of the Carnival when he pinned Akira Taue at 17:15 following his famous backdrop.

3/25:

3/25 Tokyo Korakuen Hall 2,100 sellout
Mike Barton advanced to the second round of the Champion Carnival Tournament when he pinned Masao Inoue at 14:17 with a henkei DDT.
In the main event, Vader & Steve Williams & Scorpio defeated Mitsuharu Misawa & Yoshinari Ogawa & Jun Izumida when Williams used his Doctorbomb on Izumida at 14:13. Vader & Williams are wreaking havoc on all natives that stand near their path, including Williams bloodying the cameraman's mouth with a punch. Marufuji, Shiga, Kanemura, and Morishita also got beat on, with Morishita getting a bloody nose from a Vader punch.
No Fear beat Toshiaki Kawada & Tamon Honda when Omori pinned Honda at 14:36 following his axe bomber.

3/24:

3/24 Tokyo Korakuen Hall 2,100 sellout
Johnny Smith advanced to the second round of the Champion Carnival Tournament when he pinned Tamon Honda at 15:12 with his reverse DDT.
In the main event, Vader & Steve Williams & Wolf Hawkfield defeated Toshiaki Kawada & Akira Taue & Masao Inoue when used his Big Van crush on Inoue at 18:34.
Johnny Ace & Mike Barton & Scorpio beat Mitsuharu Misawa & Yoshinari Ogawa & Maunakea Mossman when Ace used his Ace crusher on Mossman at 18:40.
No Fear beat Kenta Kobashi & Kentaro Shiga when Takayama pinned Shiga in a German suplex hold at 12:43.
Jun Akiyama made Yoshinobu Kanemaru submit at 8:11.
