8/10/82 Fukushima 2/3 Falls WWWA Tag Titles: Devil & Tarantula vs. Mimi & Omori
4/29/91 Tokyo Ota-ku Taiikukan
All Pacific Title: Suzuka vs. Hokuto. Just under 9 minutes aired, but this appeared to be an incredible dramatic fast-paced match with tons of great high spots and one hot nearfall after the other. Suzuka was really excellent, showing once again why I think she was an incredibly underrated wrestler. Hokuto wins All Pacific Title. ****1/2.
2/3 Falls WWWA Tag Titles: Jungle Jack (Aja & Bison) vs. Toyota & Esther Moreno. Match was mainly dominated by Jungle Jack, but there were some really nice high spots by both teams including a rare plancha by Aja. This is when Esther used to be quite good, her high spots have always been great, but her execution is top notch here (actually better than Toyota's in this particular match). ****
WWWA Title: Bull vs. Monster. Monster is considerably heavier here then in her matches from the early 1980's and not suprisingly she's considerably worse. They brawled and Bull juiced, but that was about it. Execution was subpar and this was a real stinker for a WWWA title match. ** (maybe generous).

2/87 Elimination Match for Team Title: Chigusa & Uno & Hotta & Mika Suzuki (Suzuka Minami) & Yachiya Hirata & Mika Takahashi vs. Lioness & Kazue Nagahori & Mika Komatsu & Mitsuko Nishiwaki & Kaoru Maeda (KAORU) & Darlene Osashi. Very good match. Chigusa & Lioness were obviously the best, but Komatsu & Nagahori were also impressive. Downfall was too many quick pinfalls and too much basic work from youngsters.

2/26/87 Kawasaki: Chigusa Nagayo vs. Lioness Asuka. Unbelievable match! Tremendous heat, stiff kicks, crisp execution, great build with the teasing of big spots, super work, extremely exciting. Main psychology is that both women are equal, so it's great spots back and forth for the 30:00 time limit then and extra 5 min. *****
2/3 Falls: Crush Gals & Yumi Ogura vs. Dump & Kai & Crane
Jaguar & Tateno vs. Omori & Lioness. Short match, but very good because Jaguar & Lioness were super together and Tateno was also real good with Lioness.

Omori vs. Chigusa. Short but excellent.
UWA Title: Jaguar vs. Lola Gonzalez. Great fast-paced match that was very much ahead of it's time.
Chigusa vs. Tateno. Both women are very young, but this is a very good fast-paced match with lots of high spots.

Korakuen Hall 2/3 Falls WWWA Tag Titles: Dynamite Girls vs. Devil & Peggy Lee. Omori got injured during first falls, so Hori had to fight the rest of the match 2-1, well except for brief help from Chigusa. Lee wasn't good and the match was ok, but kind of dull.

Summer Night Festival 7/31/79 Tokyo Den'en Coliseum Death Match for WWWA Title: Jackie Sato vs. Monster Ripper. Really intense and heated with Monster winning the title when the ref stops the match due to loss of blood.
8/28/85 Tokyo Nippon Budokan Hair vs. Hair Death match: Chigusa vs. Dump. Incredible heat. Dump dominates, Chigusa makes brief comebacks. Dump used scissors to bloody Chigusa and the table to KO her. Incredibly aura, but the actual wrestling was minimal, and there were no sequences at all.
2/3 Falls WWWA Tag Titles: Crush Gals vs. Galactica & Lola Gonzalez. A very good wrestling match that got out of control with Dump and cronies interjecting themselves including bloodying Asuka with a screw driver.
9/17/84 WWWA & UWA Titles: Jaguar (WWWA Champ) vs. Galactica (UWA Champ). Great match for it's time mainly due to Jaguar. Very dramatic. Jaguar bled from the leg and head. Jaguar wins UWA title.

WWWA Sekai Single 28th Champion Kettei Tournament Ikkaisen: Jaguar Yokota vs. Irma Gonzalez. Jaguar looked good finishing Gonzalez off, but that's all that made it onto this tape. Last 1:46
2/3 Falls: Lucy Kayama & Mimi Hagiwara vs. Mami Kumano & Irma Aguilar. Slow more methodical kick and stomp type of brawl. Dull. 8:41, 2:14, & 3:48. **
Jackie Sato vs. Devil Masami. Devil had clearly surpassed Sato in terms of ability by this point, just 2 years into her career, though I'm not sure how much that says when Sato's rep is primarily garnered on her star power and the lack of good workers before and during her peak. Work was good, but the match took a long time to get going. Sato apparently injured her knee when Devil back body dropped her over the top to the floor, with the ref stopping the match after Sato lie in pain for a few minutes. 17:10. ***

'80 Shinsei Kettei Tournament: Kazue Sakamoto vs. Kaoru Matsumoto. Sakamoto didn't show anything and Dump is nothing without the heel persona and heat. 6:34. 3/4*
Tomoko Kitamura vs. Hiroe Ito. Better work than the previous rookie match. *
WWWA Sekai Single 28th Champion Kettei Tournament Ikkaisen: Nancy Kumi vs. Yumi Ikeshita. Ikeshita is certainly one of the most prolific cheaters in the history of women's wrestling. Ikeshita wore shooting gloves and did a bunch of punching, mainly illegal versions like to the throat or with a metal object. I liked how Ikeshita would find ways to turn a legal move into a choke like she'd do a knee dorp, but it would be to the throat and then she'd put all her weight on Kumi's throat for 4 seconds. Ikeshita was also one of the best athletes of her era, and although the heel style hampered her development in this area, she would pull out a dive sometimes. Here, she slingshot herself over the top rope to the floor with a knee drop. Kumi injured Ikeshita's leg and used some submissions on it. Long hard fought match where both dug deep into their arsenal. Pretty ridiculous that after 45 minutes of basically stalemate they have a 1:38 ring out finish in overtime. 23:19 of 45:00 plus 1:38. ***1/4
2/3 Falls: Lucy Kayama & Ayumi Hori vs. Monster Ripper & Noriko Kawakami. The lousy heel side dragged this down. Kayama did a few interesting things, but otherwise it was forgettable. 7:08, 4:34, & 3:04. *1/2

Jumbo Hori vs. Masked Yu. Mainly brawling with Yu showing nothing. Hori wasn't all that impressive either outside of a nice backdrop hold. *1/4
2/3 Falls '83 Fuji TV Hai Tag Tournament Ikkaisen: Devil Masami & Itsuki Yamazaki vs. Lei Lani Kai & Terry Shane. Short one-sided match with too much brawling. Shane was in too much and didn't appear to have any talent. *
Mimi Hagiwara vs. Kaoru Matsumoto. Matsumoto's size and power vs. Hagiwara's quickness and athleticism. Matsumoto was a lot quicker here since she wasn't carrying nearly as much weight as in the Dump days. That weight went a long way toward making her intimidating though because she wasn't too big for Mimi here, and Mimi was much more experienced and the bigger star so it was not hard to believe her having her way with Matsumoto. Some good counters, but much too short. **1/4
2/3 Falls: Jaguar Yokota & Noriyo Tateno vs. Lioness Asuka & Chigusa Nagayo. Really well worked match. Good pace throughout, picking up at the end of each fall. Jaguar was much better than the others, though Lioness was excellent enough to do some awesome things with her in the 3rd fall. Their speed and precision of their, particularly Jaguar's, execution was so impressive. Tateno, who doesn't have the offense of Jaguar, didn't do much and Chigusa generally didn't stand out. The downside of this match was that the longest fall was just over 5 minutes. ***3/4
Original JWP from The Heel Street: Mayumi Ozaki vs. Hikari Fukuoka. Ozaki dominated a young Fukuoka. She executed really well, but she's hurt more than most when the outcome is never in doubt.
Fuji TV Hai WWWA Sekai Single Senshuken Chosensha Kettei Tournament: Masked Yu vs. Wild Kazuki. Kazuki is very solid, but lacks offense. She did a nice reverse neckbreaker, but she won with a dropkick. Yu was sluggish and overall it was pretty dull. *1/2
Nancy Kumi & Chigusa Nagayo vs. Jumbo Hori & Lioness Asuka. Crush Gals were very speedy, running around a lot and doing everything in high gear. Kumi & Hori slowed it down and did more of the stomping type roughhousing. **1/2
Jaguar Yokota vs. Devil Masami. They worked the power vs. athletic spots really well. A couple of screw ups, but Jaguar's offense was off the charts and this was years ahead of the rest of the card. Devil tried to sneak attack Jaguar with a chair at the outset, but Jaguar kept avoiding and they wound brawling on the floor. Jaguar takes the pace up and down very well, coming back with a couple counters and doing a few spectacular moves before settling in. Jaguar did a plancha. ****
2/3 Falls WWWA Sekai Tag Senshukenjiai: Mimi Hagiwara & Yukari Omori vs. Judy Martin & Sherri Martel. Sherri had this awful orange/brown afro. Brawl with Devil & co. constantly attacking Mimi. Mimi was in the ring forever, but was in no hurry to tag and sold nothing on her comeback. 13-minute 1st fall is on tape, but it cuts off during 2nd.
'86 Shinsei Kettei Tournament: Nobuko (Bison) Kimura vs. Noriyo (Combat) Toyoda
Reibun Amada vs. Mika Takahashi. Probably also from rookie tournament.

Zen Nihon Tag Senshukenjiai: Yumi Ogura & Kazue Nagahori vs. Hisako Uno & Yumiko Hotta
'85 Shinsei (new face) Kettei Tournament: Mitsuko Nishiwaki vs. Fumie Kanzaki. Basic offense, but crisp execution of it. Nishiwaki showed good quickness and looked very solid. Much better than recent rookie matches, but too short to give a high rookie match rating too. *
Jaguar Yokota & Jumbo Hori & Mika Komatsu vs. Irma Gonzalez & Bull Nakano & Condor Saito. Fast and intense throughout. For the most part the offense wasn't great, but it was done rapidly. Hori wasn't in much, which was good because she couldn't sustain the frantic pace anyway. Komatsu was featured though, which didn't do wonders for the match. Jaguar threw the ref into the announcers table after the match. ***1/4
2/3 Falls: Lioness Asuka & Chigusa Nagayo & Itsuki Yamazaki vs. Irma Gonzalez & Irma Aguilar & Bull Nakano. Fast-paced match with a hot crowd for the Crush Gals. The faces wrestling was impressive, but the heels never got to do anything. Yamazaki wasn't in much, but showed nice flying for the time. ***
2/3 Falls: Lioness Asuka & Noriyo Tateno vs. Dump Matsumoto & Irma Aguilar. Fast-paced even when Dump was in. The 1st fall was the best. After that it started breaking down with the cronies getting involved. Lioness gave Dump a giant swing. **1/2
Jaguar Yokota & Devil Masami vs. Jumbo Hori & Yukari Omori. Jaguar was working hard at making her opponents offense look more impressive. Jumbo is a couple inches taller than Devil, but Devil controls her body better. Jaguar tried a doublearm suplex off the top, but Jumbo was injured when her foot got stuck on the top turnbuckle so they had to go home right after this spot. **3/4
Noriyo Tateno vs. Dump Matsumoto. Dump was tossing Tateno around like a rag doll. At one point she ran at Dump, but Dump caught her throat and threw her "from the middle of the ring to the floor". It looked like Tateno would finally do something, counter into a German suplex, but she couldn't get Dump up and Dump reversed. Tateno did come back with a German suplex, but Dump was up first and soon lariated Tateno out of her boots for the win. The match was well structured, but wasn't exciting because Dump's armor was never even dented. **1/2

2/3 Falls: Chigusa Nagayo & Itsuki Yamazaki vs. Devil Masami & Yukari Omori. Very solid match carried by Devil. Slower paced heavyweight style match with more struggling, though Yamazaki did do some faster stuff at the beginning of the 3rd fall. Consistently high quality, but all the falls were brief. Chigusa "injured" her knee when Devil forearmed the back of it to stop her kneel kick. ***1/2

Nancy Kumi vs. Lena Blair. This was probably one of Blair's first matches in AJW because she totally dominated Kumi with her roughhousing. Blair wouldn't cooperate with the ref so he could start the match, and she never really started listining to anything he said. Blair used her size, but she's a lousy brawler and Kumi was never allowed to do anything. *
Zen Nihon Junior Oza Ketteisen: Rimi Yokota vs. Chino Sato. Though Yokota was a "junior because she'd only been wrestling 2 1/2 years, she was already far and away the best women's wrestler. The big matches dream they'd been hyping constantly couldn't come close to the match she had here with Sato, who was inexperienced and far from great. One thing that helped is the women played the role that made for the best match. Sato doesn't have much offense, but this wasn't too apparent because she launched a focused attack on Jaguar's leg. This was spurned from early brawling that saw Jaguar use a bucked and Sato respond by using the chair to injure the leg. Jaguar supplied the spots, and though her offense wasn't what it would become, it was far more impressive than her peers. About 20 min. ***3/4
WWWA Sekai Single Senshukenjiai: Jackie Sato vs. Tomy Aoyama. Had action and heat, but neither has much offense. Aoyama should be much better because she's such a good athlete, but as far as I can tell she never quite figured out how to utilize her ability. She did a pescado and Sato avoided some kind of a dive off the top, but the few cool athetletic spots she attempted usually missed and regardless they never quite seemed to fit. Sato uses her knees well for breakers and leverage submissions. Some technical proficency here, but a bit sloppy. ***
taped Ota-ku Taiikukan
Yumi Ikeshita vs. Mami Kumano. The idea of the Black Pair facing each other so you'd have a wild match with nothing but brawling and cheating was good (especially since this kind of thing was fresh then). The problem is they tried to enforce the rules and wound up calling for a DQ rather quickly. Kumano used her scissors and Ikeshita used a big box, which bloodied Kumano's mouth, but I wanted to see them not only deliver the expected but do it for 10-15 minutes. 4:53
WWWA All Pacific Senshukenjiai: Tomy Aoyama vs. Lucy Kayama. Aoyama tried to boomerang off the top right away, but Kayama avoided. Kayama does a kick of neckbreaker out of a backslide position that's pretty neat (though I'm not sure how deadly it would really be). Match was exciting for the time, culminating with Lucy hurting her knee missing a tope then Aoyama hurting herself missing a pescado. A better ending, though still frustrating. ***
Jackie Sato vs. Nancy Kumi. Might have been a good match at the time, but this overlong match certainly hasn't aged well. The editing didn't help because what was good - the parity and the struggle - were downplayed and what wasn't good - the offense - was highlighted because the setup and flow was eliminated by constantly skipping ahead. 9:26 of 30:00.

2/3 Falls: Lioness Asuka & Chigusa Nagayo vs. Yukari Omori & Itsuki Yamazaki. Most of the offense wasn't great, but the match was one move after another. They saved the best moves for the third fall, which was excellent though short. Actually, the main thing that kept this from being an excellent match was that all the falls were brief. 5:25, 3:30, & 3:51. ***3/4

Note: this show has English commentary
Bull Nakano vs. Noriyo Tateno. Very disappointing match. Bull was in full heel mode and her cronies kept interjecting, so it was a short Bull domination without much wrestling. 7:53. **
Condor Saito vs. Hisako Uno. Uno was able to use her athleticism for low level flying like the jumping lariat and dropkick. The big difference between her here and the Hokuto years wasn't so much the offense, but that she wasn't nearly as smooth or in control of her body here. Condor was a solid but dull brawler in this one. I thought this would be pretty good, but it never really got going. 8:42. *3/4

Tag League The Best '86: Yukari Omori & Hisako Uno vs. Devil Masami & Kyoko Aso. The match was quite good when Devil was in. She got a lot out of Uno, not giving her sustained offense but allowing her to counter into brief advantages. Aso was the weak link, but didn't exactly hurt the match. 19:20. ***1/4
2/3 Falls: Dump Matsumoto & Desiree Peterson & Condor Saito vs. Yukari Omori & Lioness Asuka & Jumbo Hori. Tape starts during 2nd fall. Total chaos with all the seconds interjecting. Not much wrestling, but an extremely heated contest. 2:23 of ?, 3:18.
7/85 taped Chiba Koen Taiikukan
Kazue Nagahori vs. Condor Saito. Enjoyable enough, but instead of getting good it just ended. 7:10. *1/2
'85 Zen Nihon Senshuken Oza Kettei Leaguesen: Yumi Ogura vs. Bull Nakano. Pretty good heat, but the brawling was dull and the wrestling segment that would have been good was marred with miscues. Bull won with a bodyslam that Ogura kicked out of at 2. 11:28. *
Jaguar Yokota & Itsuki Yamazaki & Noriyo Tateno vs. Dump Matsumoto & Desiree Peterson & Dawn Marie. Heels controlled from the get go due to a sneak attack before the bell. The faces just made brief comebacks during the first 12 minutes then Jaguar came in and took control for the few minutes that were the highlight of the match. Dump wound up dominating all three faces though and winning, so while adequate it was pretty disappointing because it was so one-sided. 13:17. **
2/3 Falls: Lioness Asuka & Chigusa Nagayo vs. Yukari Omori & Mika Komatsu. Komatsu faired pretty well when the pace was fast because she's very athetic even though she hadn't developed much offense to capitilize on that. Omori tried to carry her team in the 2nd fall after her young partner went down in the first, and surprisingly she failed as well, though that was logical because you don't crush Crush 1 on 2. 9:05, 5:38. ***

'85 Zen Nihon Senshuken Oza Kettei Leaguesen: Bull Nakano vs. Mika Komatsu. Short match with a lot of brawling. Bull sold a lot considering the remedial offense Komatsu was throwing at her. Above rookie level, but not that much more interesting. 8:18. *1/2
Devil Masami & Jumbo Hori vs. Dump Matsumoto & Desiree Peterson. Out of control the whole time, which was both good and bad. The good thing about Devil vs. Dump is Devil can give it take it as it. As Dump can't wrestle, it's probably better when she has an opponent like this she can just do a pure brawl with. Referee Crane Yu really took a beating here from her old mate Dump. Nice double pin finish. 10:36. **1/2
Jumping Bomb Angels sing
'86 Team Taiketsu Koshiki Leaguesen: Yukari Omori & Kanako Nagatomo & Sayori Nakajima & Kyoko Aso vs. Dump Matsumoto & Bull Nakano & Condor Saito & Yasuko Ishiburo. The girls were energetic, but most of them used low level offense because they were inexperienced. Nagatomo was pretty good when she was in, using her athleticism to roll into pins. Omori was left on her own against the top 3 members of Dump's team. They tried to injure her knee rather than just win the match. Omori came back against Condor and carried that over against Bull, forgetting to sell her knee during all of this. Dump attacked the knee when she came back. The story of Omori making the big comeback was good, but like the rest of the match it was played out rather flatly, lacking near falls and double teams to differentiate and get you into it. Everyone lost too easily. That might be more the problem of trying to do 7 eliminations in 20 minutes than these wrestlers fault, but coupled with the other dramatic problems it made what could have been an excellent match merely good. 20:26. ***
Itsuki Yamazaki vs. Lei Lani Kai. Started slow but got good after 8 or so minutes. Unfortunately, the match only lasted 9 1/2, ending with a cheap screw job where the ref didn't notice that Yamazaki got her foot on the rope. 9:30. **
2/3 Falls: Devil Masami & Yumi Ogura & Mika Komatsu vs. Chigusa Nagayo & Noriyo Tateno & Yumiko Hotta. Devil & Chigusa carried the younger wrestlers rather than wrestling each other. Devil was the main force here, working the best slower segments. Tateno worked the best fast segments though, and everyone else but Hotta contributed. 6:23, 2:40, & 7:38. ***1/2
Crane Yu vs. Noriyo Tateno 12:00 of ? (full time draw). Shiro Abe was in full heel ref form, doing quick counts on Tateno when she had Yu in a submission but her shoulders happened to touch the mat. Abe found a way to miss every foreign object and run in, even getting mysteriously "distracted" when Tateno would tell him it was coming. Yamazaki finally tired of this and jumped in for some double teaming, turning the tide and greatly improving the match quality since Yu is a willing bumper but offensively she's Dump minus all the heat. Pretty good match that seemed about the right length, getting better as it went on and peaking in the final minute.
Jumbo Hori & Itsuki Yamazaki vs. Dump Matsumoto & Keiko Nakano 7:27. Energetic match that was a bit out of control in the good sense. Short but action packed with Yamazaki and Nakano carrying the match, which kept it from being the usual bludgeoning. Abe was at it again, bothering Hori about straying too far down the apron while Dump's team was having their way with Yamazaki. He even held Yamazaki for Dump to attack, so Hori attacked him. ***
Yumi Ogura Hawaii Report. She goes to various restaurants and her fellow wrestlers give her some of their food or order the same for her. Odd see Jaguar in a dress.
Devil Masami vs. La Galactica 11:20. Galactica isn't the most graceful Luchadora, but she's a lot more exciting than the Japanese heels because she does all their cheating but also can fly. Devil wrestled her style, but didn't get much offense in. Abe and Rossy Moreno helped see to that, as it turned to brawling and cheating after a quick start. **3/4
2/3 Falls: Jaguar Yokota & Yukari Omori & Mika Komatsu vs. Lioness Asuka & Chigusa Nagayo & Yumi Ogura 11:18, 3:46, 2:38. Hyper action wrestled at double speed. Would not have been notable if wrestled at regular speed, but the pace helped mask the limitations of the lesser performers. Quick tags, usually changing once per minute, kept things fresh and the pace high. Jaguar & Lioness excelled in this style as usual, with Ogura holding her own and even getting a pin (granted on Komatsu). Komatsu didn't seem ready to work at this speed. ***3/4

Yukari Omori & Itsuki Yamazaki & Mika Komatsu vs. Dump Matsumoto & La Galactica & Rossy Moreno 15:04. Pretty choppy sequences, particularly between the Mexicans and natives. Rossy, who stinks anyway, was worse than usual. Faces were pretty good. Komatsu was better here since she wasn't in with anyone who was too advanced for her. There was a nice spot where Dump tried to hit her with a weapon, but Komatsu took her down with a leg trip. Dump sold more since she wasn't the top heel yet, and though the heels were mediocre they did draw lots of heat. Still Nakano, who only interfered, gave a better performance than any of the heels actually in the match. **1/4

Eden Mabuchi Intai Jiai: Eden Mabuchi vs. Rumi Kazama 5:00. Mabuchi is one of the really attractive wrestlers few people know about. Match was pretty good for what it was. Kandori took over for Rumi 3 1/2 minutes, with Rumi selling for 30 seconds then getting back in the mix for double teaming. Eden dropkicked Kandori to the floor, ending her role in the match then had a final big run on Rumi but couldn't get the pin before time expired. Though Kandori only sold one move, her participation actually put even over more as she stood up to her and didn't succumb to the odds.
Mayumi Ozaki vs. Hikari Fukuoka 11:26. Good performance by Ozaki with the goal being to have a decent little match. Ozaki kept Fukuoka contained and within herself. She dominated early, but Fukuoka came back with dropkicks and was on offense for quite a while. She wasn't spectacular, but they did enough to keep it interesting. **1/2
Devil Masami & Utako Hozumi vs. Shinobu Kandori & Miki Handa 10:26. Short match. Some decent action, but nothing to give reason to it ending 10 minutes early. *3/4
UWA Nintei International Senshuken: Harley Saito vs. Miss A 14:51. Harley was riding high in the last year of JWP. She was a hell of a worker from '91-93 or '94; it's amazing how quickly LLPW managed to crush her star. A was also wrestling at a high level today, and both women gave it their all. Good back and forth match that could have gone either way. ***1/2
AJW TV 4/79 taped 4/6 Tokyo Korakuen Hall
2/3 Falls WWWA Sekai Tag Senshuken: Tomi Aoyama & Lucy Kayama (Queen Angels) vs. Mami Kumano & Yumi Ikeshita (Black Pair) 5:15, 1:22, 1:05. Good 1st fall, but the last two were non-existant. Good story and focus, but that shouldn't be to the detriment of the match quality. Angels showed impressive athleticism and Pair brawled. Kumano got a bloody nose. Key was Aoyama suffering a knee injury. Pair kept attacking it between falls so it took forever for the 3rd fall to start. When it finally started Aoyama was useless, leading to Kayama falling quickly. **
Chino Sato vs. Ayumi Hori 9:20. Pretty good glorified rookie match. *1/2
AJW TV 5/78
Tomi Aoyama & Mimi Hagiwara vs. Yumi Ikeshita & Noriko Kawagai 9:43. Aoyama was a great athlete before the women really figured out hot to utilize great athletes. Ikeshita is very underrated, there are very few heels in the 70's who had face offense, much less ones that were legitimately good brawlers. Some good moves in the last few minutes, but it ended around the time you felt like it was about to become really good. ***
Nancy Kumi vs. Mami Kumano 17:21 of 30:00. It's always disappointing when the lesser half of each team is selected for the singles match. Kumano was brawling almost exclusively. Match was okay when Kumi was on offense, but Kumano was like a miniature Dump minus the heat. **
Mitsuko Nishiwaki vs. Akemi Sakemoto. Boring rookie style match.
Chigusa Nagayo vs. Kazue Nagahori. Nagahori was overmatched, but she wouldn't stay down and this went the distance. Good, but only 4:30 shown.
Dump Matsumoto & Condor Saito vs. Devil Masami & Kanako Nagatomo. All action. Good match dominated by the heels.
Jaguar Yokota vs. Bull Nakano. Sprint with very good work. Very good match.
2/3 Falls: Yukari Omori & Itsuki Yamazaki & Noriyo Tateno vs. Lioness & Yumi Ogura & Mika Komatsu. Lightning fast-pace with lots of big spots and some innovative ones. Very good.
Rimi Yokota vs. Yukari Omori. High impact match for it's day. Very good.
Lioness Asuka vs. Jumbo Hori. Good match, but I expected better. Some blown spots and it was kind of deliberate.
'85 Rookie Tournament: Mekumi Nakamae vs. Hisako Uno. Very slow execution and somewhat disjointed. Bad match.
Jumbo Hori vs. Yukari Omori. A draw, but only 2 ½ minutes shown.
2/3 Falls: Lioness Asuka & Yukari Omori vs. Dump Matsumoto & Condor Saito. Omori gets a leg injury, but keeps wrestling anyway so the heels unmercilessly attack the leg. Match is nothing special though.
Akemi Sakemoto vs. Hisako Uno. Ok for a rookie style match.
9/13/84 Toda AJ Jr. Title: Yumi Ogura vs. Bull Nakano.
1986: Mitsuko Nishiwaki vs. Fumie Kanzaki. These two are very young, so it's just dropkicks and mat wrestlling.
11/85 Korakuen Hall: Irma Gonzales Bull Nakano & Condor Saito vs. Jaguar Yokota & Jumbo Hori & Mika Komatsu. Very good bout with a typically great performance by Jaguar.
11/85 Korakuen Hall 2/3 falls: Crush Girls & Itsuki Yamazaki vs. Irma Gonzales & Irma Aguilar & Bull Nakano. Rather dull with too much brawling. Mexicans didn't look good.
2/3 falls: Lioness Asuka & Noriyo Tateno vs. Dump Matsumoto & Irma Aguilar. Decent match. All kinds of outside interference during the third fall.
1978 or 79 Korakuen Hall 2/3 falls: Monster Ripper & Mami Kumano vs. Jackie Sato & Maki Ueda. Very good match with the school girls screaming constantly. Heels have no high spots.
2/3 Falls: Maki Ueda & Tomi Aoyama & Lucy Kayama vs. Mami Kumano & Charito Shiruba (sp) & Marina Figeroa. Very good match. Mexicans didn't show anything and there wasn't much heat, but the faces showed great high spots for their time.
Champion Series: Monster Ripper vs. Jackie Sato. Good match. Slow start, but it turns into a wild brawl.
2/3 falls: Yuki Ikeshita & Mami Kumano & Charito Shiruba (sp) v. Jackie Sato & Tomi Aoyama & Nancy Kumi. Exciting match with a few great high spots, but the falls were really short.
Tokyo Nippon Budokan Retirement Match: Jackie Sato (WWWA World Singles Champion) vs. Maki Ueda (WWWA Hawian Pacific Champion). Final battle of the Beauty Pair. Tremendous emotional crowd. Last 7 minutes were very good, but way too much meaningless matwork before that. Jackie retains the WWWA title and Maki is forced to retire. Very emotional post match retirement ceremony for Maki. Beauty Pair sings one last song together, but you can barely hear them over the screaming schoolgirls.
2/3 Falls: Jackie Sato & Tomi Aoyama & Lucy Kayama vs. Tenjin Masami & Yuki Ikeshita & Hiroko Komine. Very good bout. Aoyama & Ikeshita are the best for their sides though Sato also looks damn good here.
WWWA World Singles Title: Monster Ripper vs. Jackie Sato. Beginning wasn't much, but it turned into a damn good match. Crowd was extremely vocal in supporting their hero Jackie. Sato wins WWWA title.
Hiroko Komine v. Kazuko Iwai. Very mediocre rookie style match.

Kamikiri Death Match (hair vs. hair): Chigusa Nagayo vs. Dump Matsumoto
Double Title WWWA & All Pacific Title Unification Match: Yukari Omori (WWWA champ) vs. Chigusa Nagayo (All-Pacific champ). Super match! Schoolgirls go nuts for Chigusa before the match, waving their pom poms and shining lights. Much of this match was about whose strike was the strongest, with Omori's chops going against Chigusa's kicks. Match was believable in the sense of when you should and shouldn't be able to hit spots. Omori is excellent in her role as the confident, cool, calm, and collected world champion. Strong psychology. Only thing bad about the match is Chigusa decides to juice a gusher after being knocked to the floor by Omori's lariat, which makes little sense. Omori makes up for that somewhat, going after the blood like a piranha, and getting heat from the school girls for doing so. Chigusa eventually puts Omori away with a moonsault to unify the titles. ****1/2
Dump Matsumoto, Yukari Omori Retirement Match: Dump & Omori vs. Crush Gals. One of the legendary women's matches of the 1980's. The AJW television show that aired this match, and the subsequent exhibition, drew a whopping 13.3 rating on a Saturday afternoon, which made it the most watched wrestling event in Japan in 1988. Dump just destroys everybody in this one, including cutting her own partner Omori up with a fork. After the match, Chigusa, arguably the best babyface ever, pleads to her bitter arch enemy Dump, definitely the best heel ever, to team with her for the first and only time. Dump accepted, which lead to a 5-Minute Exhibition Match where Chigusa & Dump faced Lioness & Omori.
2/28/88: Omori vs. Lioness. Highlights. This was actually Omori's last match. Emotional post match.
2/28/88: Dump vs. Bull Nakano & Condor Saito. Highlights of Dump wrecking her cronies. Dump actually cries in the post match.

This tape is all highlights, chronologically going through the top women's feud of the era, Dump vs. Crush Gals tag matches from 1984-87, as well as some other famous tag title matches. Similar to NJ's History of the Junior title tapes. Vintage stuff. Audio is a bit choppy in parts.
Highlights of previous battles of the Crush Gals
WWWA World Single Title: Chigusa Nagayo vs. Lioness Asuka. Emotional match. The Crush Gals are very good at showing they are friends without being friendly, and the school girls just ate that (and everything else they did) up. The pre match was just ridiculous. I mean, there were more streamers thrown for this one match than fans thrown in six months worth of current AJW shows. The story of the match was that Chigusa hurt her shoulder, but she didn't want to give up. It was effective because with this implementation, you couldn't help feel sorry for Chigusa. Lioness won the title when the ref stopped the match because of Chigusa's bad shoulder, but she refused to accept it because of the circumstances, so they had a rematch on 1/29/89. ****

Glove Bout: Yumiko Hotta vs. Meo Thai
WWWA World Single Title Ketteisen (decision match): Lioness Asuka vs. Chigusa Nagayo. Chigusa's shoulder was healed, so they had the rematch from 8/25/88. This must have set a per capita record for streamers thrown before the match, and the fans were going nuts the whole time, even during the meaningless submission. The basic story was the same as always, that these two were equals. They weren't as fast as they used to be, so the pacing was slower than 8/25/88, which was slower than their previous matches. Still it was an excellent match with an awesome aura. Lioness once again captured the title. ****1/4
2/3 Falls WWWA Tag Senshukenjiai: Chigusa Nagayo & Lioness Asuka vs. Suzuka Minami & Akira Hokuto. This had one of those silly 6 second 1st falls where Hokuto Dragon suplexed Chigusa, but that totally set up the 2nd fall. The Crush Gals were non too happy with this result and dominated their up and coming opponent, not giving her much respect and punishing her a bit. Although Hokuto wasn't looking too impressive, she'd gotten the flash pin already so there was reason to believe it could happen again. Crush Gals pretty well dominated this match, which was fine because they are much higher rated and left the door open for the upset. Hokuto actually seemed pushed even though she got little offense in. The match had some incredible heat and crazy crowd reactions, although that's nothing new for Crush Gals. Where it faltered a bit is the 3rd fall didn't come close to matching the 2nd. It lacked the psychology and storyline, the focus of beating on Hokuto's right shoulder. That would have been fine if they replaced it with increased pace and better spots or perhaps even if they developed what Suzuka's role in this match was supposed to be. Although it certainly had it's speedy segments, there were probably way too many submissions in this match. The thing is the heat never subsided, so you never felt like they were wasting your time or resting. I didn't feel that their everyone is exhausted finish worked, though the selling was impressive throughout. Crush Gals were much better than their opponents and, along with their fans, totally made the match. ****
Sweethearts (Toyota & Shimoda) vs. Dream Orca (Mita & Yamada), Ogura vs. Nakano & Tateno vs. Yamazaki simultaneously, Chigusa's retirement match where she teams with Asuka to face 5 AJW tag teams then wrestles Asuka, Asuka vs. Madusa
Semifinals
Akira Hokuto & Etsuko Mita vs. Toshiyo Yamada & Manami Toyota 12:41. Lightning pace helps make up for the inexperience. Hokuto is head and shoulders above the rest, executing with quickness and precision. Yamada gives a good performance, looking closer to her mid 90's form than the other two, who really haven't developed their offense. ***

Triple Crown: Mitsuharu Misawa vs. Toshiaki Kawada. ****1/2

Kakutogisen: Eriko (Bat) Yoshinaga vs. Mayumi Yamamoto. Not the least bit technical, but the fastest paced match of this style that I've seen. Yoshinaga would threw right hands and right low kicks over and over until Yamamoto would get a judo takedown. Very much a hard fought match. Yamamoto's nose was bloodied.
All Pacific Senshukenjiai: Aja Kong vs. Suzuka Minami. This match wasn't all that great, but it was fun. The reason it wasn't all that great was that Aja's wrestling didn't look good. Her brawling was fine, but her sequences were a bit choppy and her execution was a bit sloppy. Aja did a good job with their heel technique though, and the post match was long and heated with Aja clocking the ref that DQ'd her then brawling all around the ring with Suzuka. Finally they were separated and started yelling at each other on the mic, resulting in little skirmish. No rating because only 6:40 of the actual match was shown.
Japan Grand Prix '90 Ikkaisen:
Noriyo Tateno vs. Medusa. Tateno was still good here, but Medusa wasn't smooth and brought little to the table. The fans booed the cheap finish. *1/4
Yumiko Hotta vs. Grizzly Iwamoto. Grizzly had her heel technique down well and looked good. They were on their way to having a good match when it ended early due to Grizzly getting legitimately injured by Hotta's kicks. *1/2
Manami Toyota vs. Akira Hokuto. This was on it's way to being the expected excellent match when Hokuto cracked her knee on the guard rail doing a plancha. Hokuto tried to keep fighting, but she couldn't even stand so the doctor had to stop it. ***
Japan Grand Prix '90 Junkessho: Mitsuko Nishiwaki vs. Yumiko Hotta. Once again, Hotta wasn't very impresive, but her opponent looked good. The match never really took off. Solid, but unspectacular match. Instead, the finishing sequence took the match down because it looked pathetic, so contrived. **3/4
Japan Grand Prix '90 Kesshosen: Manami Toyota vs. Yumiko Hotta. This match got off to a fast start with Toyota dropkicking Hotta to the floor and giving her a plancha. Hotta got a cut on her forehead above her eye somewhere in here, and blood was dripping in her eye. The match kind of died in the middle, and the psychology would have been better if Hotta worked over the knee that Hokuto had spent a lot of time attacking in the previous match instead of the other one. They seemed to hit the wall before they went to the finishing sequence, so that wound up being kind of sloppy in addition to having a weak flash pin. It was a pretty good match even though it had it's flaws and they didn't exactly go out with a bang. **1/4
Matsunaga vs. Freddy-Lights Out Match, Jado & Gedo & Fuyuki vs. Jericho & Caras & Como, Sasuke & Shiryu & Orihara vs. Tenryu & Hamaguchi & Kitahara, Jado & Gedo & Fuyuki vs. Tenryu & Hamaguchi & Hara, Madusa & Noriyo Tateno vs. Mitsuki Nishikawa & Minami, Toyoda vs. Hokuto ****, Madusa & Kimura vs. Hotta & Yoshida, Cage Death Match: Nakano vs. Kong ****3/4, Asai & Hamada & Kendo vs. Brazos, Ultimo vs. Jericho-4 1/2, more!

WWWA Sekai Single Senshukenjiai: Bull Nakano vs. Manami Toyota. Toyota's first shot at the red belt

Miori Kamiya vs. Etsuko Mita. Fast action, but they didn't do anything special and the finish was lame. 2:23 shown.
Kakutogisen 3 Minutes 5 Rounds: Sakie Hasegawa vs. Kaoru Ito. No defense here, so they both took a lot of punishment. Ito got a bloody nose. Digest
Coolie SZ & Bulldog KT (Jado & Gedo) vs. Monkey Magic Wakita & Masa Michinoku (Delfin & Sasuke). These guys all became worlds better than they were here, but they were fun to watch when they were very young because they tried so hard and didn't just settle for a basic match. 3:26 shown
Mika Takahashi & Kaoru Maeda & Esther Moreno vs. Hyper Cat & La Diabolica & Kyoko Inoue. Fast-paced Lucha style match that never slowed down. It was a little sloppy, mainly because everyone was so hyper and running at almost full speed all the time. There weren't a lot of great moves, but in most cases the perpetual motion was a big plus. Esther was the best and most entertaining of the bunch. Kaoru also did a particularly good job. ***3/4
Kakutogisen 3 Minutes 6 Rounds: Yumiko Hotta vs. Mima Shimoda. This was way better than I expected, and showed Shimoda's heel potential far more than her works of this period. Shimoda really gave Hotta a tough fight, and it was really fun to watch. Even though this was a shoot, Shimoda didn't exactly adhere to the rules, which was a big part of her success. Her two best shots in the first round were illegal, one on a break and the other after she broke. She gave Hotta another big blow on a break in round 2. Although Hotta found a way to give Shimoda and enzuigiri and bloodied her nose with a kick, Shimoda was winning half way through the fight. Well, I supposed if you figure in all the deductions she at least should have recieved, Hotta was ahead. Shimoda probably should have been disqualified for punching Hotta repeatedly instead of breaking when Hotta was in the corner with her back to Shimoda. Hotta had better stamina, at least in this type of fight, so she gained momentum in the later rounds. Her advantage as a grappler was also a key to her later success. Of course, starting to cheat like Shimoda didn't hurt either, as she backed Shimoda into the ropes and knocked her down with an uraken.
Noriyo Tateno 2000 Jiai: Noriyo Tateno & Medusa vs. Mitsuko Nishiwaki & Suzuka Minami. Aside from Medusa, who was her usual pathetic self, the others were alright. Unfortunately, it was too short and none of them stepped up. *1/2
Manami Toyota vs. Akira Hokuto. This match was structured well for a long match, but failed to reach greatness because the submission holds were unconvincing and eventually totally dropped without either selling the damage they did. Hokuto came into the match with a bad knee and Toyota did several leg related submissions to exploit the damaged appendage. Unfortunately, too many of them weren't really knee submissions, and even more were loosely applied. Hokuto still did some of her best selling to put them over, which somewhat made up for it until they just left the knee entirely. The match got off to a lightning fast start with several big moves, and even some near falls. This was probably the strongest part of the match, actually, because the moves were set up and flowed together in such a way that it wasn't that unrealistic that they were doing German and Dragon suplexes less than a minute into the match. The fans got into the match more as it went on even though most of the match was slow paced mat wrestling. The thing is when there was action, it was a total sprint, but most of the time it was on the mat. That's where the timing of when to pick the match up becomes so important, and here they definitely knew when to pick it up. ****
Aja Kong & Bison Kimura vs. Bull Nakano & Grizzly Iwamoto. Intense, violent brawl. They really clocked each other with objects, with Bull being particularly vicious. This match was mainly about the two monsters, Bull & Aja, showing how tough they were. They were building the rivalry up here, so they just took everything each other had to offer, usually without even being slightly phased. Bison & Grizzly were the workhorses here. They were good wrestling wise, but they were mainly in the ring getting killed the whole time. Bull was really stiff with Bison, and Bison showed a lot of fighting spirit by taking her blows and coming back for more. The match worked because it made you want to see Aja and Bull beat on each other until they had to sell. ****

Zen Nihon Tag Senshukenjiai: Mika Takahashi & Kaoru Maeda vs. Etsuko Mita & Mima Shimoda. Decent spot oriented match. Not much thought put into it and it could have been stiffer and smoother. I'm sure it was more impressive in its time because they did do a lot of spots, but the spots have been surpassed. KAORU's handstand headscissors was one cool move that somebody should still use today. **
Kakuto Gisen 3 minutes 4 rounds: Bat Yoshinaga vs. Kaoru Ito. Good for what it was. The 3rd round was particularly good with both women slugging each other back and forth. In the 4th round, they tried to pick up where they left off but they were somewhat fatigued so they weren't as active.
4 vs. 4 Elimination Match Lucha Libre Rule: Noriyo Tateno & Xochilt Hamada & Esther Moreno & Takako Inoue vs. Hyper Cat & La Diabolica & Miori Kamiya & Mayumi Yamamoto. Super fast-paced. The problem was they did 7 eliminations in less than 12 minutes. The match was exciting and the work was good, but it was a totally rushed spotfest. This was mainly Lucha since the Mexicans were involved, with Esther being the best because she was so smooth and athletic then and this was her type of match. ***1/4
Yumiko Hotta & Mariko Yoshida vs. Bison Kimura & Madusa. Madusa cut one of her classic interviews here, "We are invincible! We are defeatable!" Yoshida wasn't allowed to do many spots, but her work was really solid and she was the best in the match even though she basically only did basic stuff like dropkicks and monkey flips. Hotta & Bison didn't step up at all, so this was a disappointing match with a lame finish out of nowhere. **1/2
Universal Wrestling Renmai (federation): Gran Hamada & Yoshihiro Asai & Kendo vs. Brazo De Oro & El Brazo & Brazo De Plata. The technicos did a lot of cool moves, with the heels just serving as their foils. Asai's offense was really fantastic for the time, but today his students stuff is a lot crazier. Hamada was top notch, as always. Brazo & Brazo De Oro really did a good job of making the technicos look spectacular. The highlight was a 5 dive sequence that included the Asai moonsault and a Porky suicida. ***3/4
WWWA Sekai Tag Senshukenjiai: Akira Hokuto & Suzuka Minami vs. Manami Toyota & Kyoko Inoue. Toyota's enemy Kyoko replaced Toyota's injured friend Yamada, and the duo fought amongst themselves instead of working together for the common goal of winning the tag titles. It wasn't really dramatic because you never believed Toyota & Kyoko could win, but it was an excellent match because everyone was working on a high level in those days. ****
Kanaami (chain link cage) No Referee Death Match Escape Rule: Bull Nakano vs. Aja Kong. A classic grudge match; stiff, bloody, and brutal. This was a brawl with one gimmick spot after another. However, it made sense for them to take things to this level because they hated each other that much. The thing that made this match great was there was actually focus to these gimmick laden attacks. Bull used the gimmicks to try to disable Aja's uraken arm, while Aja attacked Bull's leg to try to take away her flying and kicks. The seconds helped add to the drama as they were fighting with each other the whole time for chances to help their woman out. Bull's guillotine leg drop off the top of the cage is one of the moves responsible for making a dive off the cage a "required" part of future cage matches. ****3/4

Noriyo Tateno Retirement Match 5 Minute Exhibition: Noriyo Tateno vs. Takako Inoue. I wish this would have been a longer match. The match itself was alright, and it was good that Takako got to face her senpai in her retirement match (that lasted a long time), but it made no sense that this wasn't a sprint. The fans showering Tateno with streamer after streamer before the match was just incredible to see. The retirement ceremony was the highlight and a lot of the 80's stars like Lioness, her JB Angel partner Itsuki Yamazaki, Nishiwaki, Jumbo Hori, Jaguar, Crane Yu, & Dump attending. Lioness, Dump, and Jaguar did some of their old spots to Tateno after the match, including Jaguar, in her street clothes, doing a perfect missile kick, as if she hadn't missed a beat in all these years she'd been retired.
Yumiko Hotta & Esther Moreno & Cynthia Moreno vs. Toshiyo Yamada & Etsuko Mita & Mima Shimoda. Fast-paced, all action match. This was back when Esther was cool. Yamada was quite good, but Cynthia & Shimoda weren't too good.
All Pacific Title: Manami Toyota vs. Suzuka Minami. This got off to a slow start and didn't build all that well, but the last 3 ½ minutes were incredible, particularly Toyota doing one big spot after another. Suzuka took the title. Very good.
Akira Hokuto vs. Aja Kong. Aja totally dominated the 1st 7:30, but it turned into a hot match from here as she missed her plancha and Hokuto came back with her tope con hilo. Very good match, but too short and one-sided.
Bull Nakano & Kyoko Inoue vs. Bison Kimura & Mika Takahashi. No one worked at the level they are capable of. Takahashi hurt her ankle bad when Bull avoided her plancha and Bat didn't catch her, so she twisted her ankle on impact. Average.

Super Bout: Aja Kong vs. Monster Ripper
Super Bout: Bull Nakano vs. Bison Kimura
Mayumi Yamamoto & Kaoru Ito & Kazue Saito vs. Tomoko Watanabe & Hirasuine Sonteitam & Bonteipu Sontietam
Mika Takahashi & Miori Kamiya vs. Etsuko Mita & Mima Shimoda
WWWA Kakutogi Senshukenjiai: Bat Yoshinaga vs. Akemi Torisu
Yumiko Hotta & Debbie Malenko & Cynthia Moreno vs. Toshiyo Yamada & Mariko Yoshida & Sakie Hasegawa
Zen Nihon Senshukenjiai: Kyoko Inoue vs. Takako Inoue
All Pacific Title: Suzuka Minami vs. Akira Hokuto. Incredibly dramatic fast-paced match with tons of great high spots and one hot nearfall after the other. Suzuka was really excellent, showing once again why I think she was an incredibly underrated wrestler. Hokuto wins All Pacific Title. ****1/2.
2/3 Falls WWWA Tag Titles: Jungle Jack (Aja Kong & Bison Kimura) vs. Manami Toyota & Esther Moreno. Match was mainly dominated by Jungle Jack, but there were some really nice high spots by both teams including a rare plancha by Aja. This is when Esther used to be quite good, her high spots have always been great, but her execution is top notch here (actually better than Toyota's in this particular match). ****
WWWA Title: Bull Nakano vs. Monster Ripper. Monster is considerably heavier here then in her matches from the early 1980's and not suprisingly she's considerably worse. They brawled and Bull juiced, but that was about it. Execution was subpar and this was a real stinker for a WWWA title match. **
*Reviewed in Quebrada #41*
Kaoru Ito vs. Kazue Saito. Rookie style match. Aside from a few blown spots by Saito the match was technically sound, but they didn't really do anything because AJW hadn't turned them loose yet. *
Tomoko Watanabe vs. Mayumi Yamamoto. Fast paced with a lot of moves off the ropes, but a lot of Yamamoto's spots either weren't executed perfectly or lacked impact. *1/4
Etsuko Mita & Mima Shimoda vs. Hirasuine Sonteitam & Bonteipu Sontietam. Mita & Shimoda carried the match, but it wasn't good at all. The sisters were so green that Mita & Shimoda just dominated them the whole time. The match was very basic and quite dull. *
Kyoko Inoue & Debbie Malenko vs. Esther Moreno & Mariko Yoshida. Beautiful Hamada's Universal influenced Puro-Lucha. A few momentary lapses, but at its best the spots were so well done that an arm drag could leave you in awe. The match was too short, but while it lasted it had excellent spots done at a lightning fast pace, some good matwork, and even a bit of comedy. Esther ruled in this one. ****
Suzuka Minami & Takako Inoue & Cynthia Moreno vs. Bison Kimura & Mika Takahashi & Miori Kamiya. ****
Toshiyo Yamada vs. Yumiko Hotta. Very good UWF style match. Early portion wasn't outstanding, but it turned into a great match with ultra stiff strikes and near finishes back and forth. ***3/4
Aja Kong vs. Manami Toyota. Aja was excellent, calling and carrying the match, supplying all the psychology and timing, and even outworking Toyota. Well built 30:00 draw. ****1/4.
2/3 Falls: Akira Hokuto & Sakie Hasegawa vs. Bull Nakano & Bat Yoshinaga. It was a big deal for the very inexperienced Sakie to just be in the main event here, so that she got crushed didn't matter because she was very greatful to Bull & Bat that she just got the opportunity to work against them. The match is excellent when Hokuto is in with Bull. They agree to add a 4th fall, but only the 3rd fall is of any length. ****1/4
Bat Yoshinaga & Tomoko Watanabe & Hirosuine Sonteitam vs. Miori Kamiya & Mika Takahashi & Kaoru Ito
Yumiko Hotta & Mima Shimoda & Sakie Hasegawa vs. Debbie Malenko & Esther Moreno & Cynthia Moreno
AJ Title: Takako Inoue vs. Mariko Yoshida
JGP '91: Toshiyo Yamada vs. Kyoko Inoue 13:14. Yamada & Kyoko had so much speed and energy in these days. Kyoko brought next to nothing to Yamada's UWF style, so it was better in the second half when Yamada used her athletic kicks. Exciting but somewhat sloppy match. Yamada was the better of the two. **1/2
JGP '91 Semifinal: Aja Kong vs. Bison Kimura 20:05. Psychological brawl. Bison knew her partner had an injured foot, so she beat on it mercilessly throughout the match. She mixed brawling and submission, using a chair and billy club on it and even bit the foot after removing Aja's shoe and sock. Bison was easily the better wrestler of the two at this point, but she didn't have the push so she needed every advantage to defeat her partner. Aja did a great job of making it seem like the pain was real, even throwing in a sloppy suplex where her foot couldn't take the pressure. She was hardly on offense, which wasn't a bad thing especially given how could she could sell when she had reason to. Fans didn't get into it much, probably because they're both heels, but this was probably the most focused match the promotion delivered all year. ***3/4
JGP '91 Semifinal: Manami Toyota vs. Kyoko Inoue 14:02. Not in the class with their later matches because they didn't possess the move sets. Their matches were always all about action, but after the hot start this actually had quite a few pointless submissions. Picked up toward the end, but the finish wasn't overly satisfying. Good action but not what would come to expect. ***
Suzuka Minami & Etsuko Mita vs. Bull Nakano & Akira Hokuto
JGP '91 Final: Kyoko Inoue vs. Bison Kimura 10:49. Their styles mesh well. Bison is quite a smart wrestler, who can carry Kyoko to a solid match. She's tough and a good brawler, but she's not overly exciting. That's Kyoko's strength, using her energy to pop the crowd. Bison would dominate portions, with Kyoko pulling out an exciting counter. Bison cut Kyoko right off the bat, but surprisingly didn't really follow up on it. Otherwise it was a pretty smart match. There were a few problems though, largely the length. It seemed like they worked too long earlier and were lacking a little toward the end of the final when they needed it most, and having the final be the shortest of the bunch was a bit of an odd idea to begin with. It's a little sloppy toward the end, but quite a good match if you can take it for what it is rather than holding it to a standard set by better, more experienced wrestlers. What they did here was elevate the #2's of Bull & Aja, with Bison getting one good upset win and Kyoko getting three wins over more experienced wrestlers. ***1/2
Bat Yoshinaga & Tomoko Watanabe vs. Mayumi Yamamoto & Kazue Saito. *1/2
Etsuko Mita & Mima Shimoda & Mariko Yoshida vs. Mika Takahashi & Miori Kamiya & Kaoru Ito. **3/4
Suzuka Minami & Takako Inoue vs. Jungle Jack (Aja Kong & Bison Kimura). **
Heartbeat The Rival Bout: Manami Toyota vs. Toshiyo Yamada. ****
All Pacific Title: Akira Hokuto vs. Yumiko Hotta. ****1/4
WWWA World Single Title: Bull Nakano vs. Kyoko Inoue. ****

Miori Kamiya & Kaoru Ito vs. Bat Yoshinaga & Tomoko Watanabe. Fairly basic match. It had action, just not difficult spots. Bat & Ito were the best. *3/4
Suzuka Minami & Etsuko Mita & Sakie Hasegawa vs. Yumiko Hotta & Mima Shimoda & Mariko Yoshida. Fast-paced match. No one but Suzuka & Hotta had the move sets they would have, and Yoshida was one of the weak links. Finish came out of nowhere, which was weird since Hotta was the one that was pinned. **1/4
Zen Nihon Senshukenjiai: Takako Inoue vs. Debbie Malenko. Debbie focused her submission attack on Takako's right leg. Takako did a good job of selling these submissions when they were happening. Malenko dominated the match and did a good job, but going home so abruptly really hurt. **3/4
Akira Hokuto & Manami Toyota vs. Toshiyo Yamada & Kyoko Inoue. Hokuto was the best of the bunch, and even did a moonsault, but everyone was really good. This match had great work, but the structuring was goofy. They do really fast segments that were awesome and had some spectacular moves then sit in some restmission going nowhere. If they could have focused themselves and developed a story, it would have been a great match. ****
Kanaami Tag Street Fight Death Match: Bull Nakano & Monster Ripper vs. Aja Kong & Bison Kimura. This wasn't the usual first team to escape, it was a tag match with the regular ways of winning, but the match went on until one wrestler remained so you'd have a singles match with your partner if you eliminated the other first. The ongoing Bull vs. Aja feud was the focus of the match. It was the overall highlight because they were so rough with each other and so their hatred so well. Aja was actually getting the best of Bull for once. The biggest spot was Bison giving Bull her diving headbutt off the top of the cage then Aja trying a diving body press off the top of the cage, but Bull avoided. The problem was Aja had ungone surgery a few days earlier, and she ripped out the stitches in her stomach when she crashed into the canvas. Aja was bleeding like crazy and screaming in pain, but Monster was too clueless to figure out she was really injured, so she pummelled her with the can over and over again. Bull finally pulled her away, but even then she got one more shot in before finally leaving poor Aja alone. Aja couldn't continue, which really screwed the plans up. Bison vs. Bull was the highlight of the match from a wrestling standpoint, but neither Bull nor Monster let Bison compete with her, so she was just punished for a long time before they finally eliminated her. Monster vs. Bull was just a bunch of weapons, which wasn't a great way to close it out. Monster wasn't horrible, but her offense is boring and she doesn't try to bump or sell. She destroyed Bull for several minutes, but one lame German suplex was enough to keep her down long enough that Aja could climb to the top of the cage and do her guillotine leg drop. This was probably the nastiest leg drop off the top of the cage ever because, surprise surprise, Bull was a little bit off on her execution, and with all that weight coming down on Monster's face, she's lucky it wasn't shattered. ***3/4
Bat Yoshinaga & Tomoko Watanabe vs. Kazue Saito & Shiho Nakamigawa. Basic, but fairly well worked match dominated by the more experienced team of Bat & Watanabe. It wasn't boring, but it was a squash without any great moves. Nakamigawa showed good fire on her comebacks, but otherwise not much could be said for her or Saito. *3/4
Akemi Torisu vs. Rie Tamada. This was the final of the '91 rookie tournament. Tamada looked pretty good, but Torisu never showed anything. Luckily Tamada was on offense almost the entire match. It got really annoying in the last minute when Torisu went on offense and quickly won the match. *1/4
Mita & Sakie Hasegawa & Mayumi Yamamoto vs. Miori Kamiya & Mima Shimoda & Kaoru Ito. Fast-paced match that had good action but nothing spectacular in the way of offense. Shimoda & Ito looked good. **1/4
Suzuka Minami vs. Yumiko Hotta. The first half was rather dull with Suzuka working a more realistic style to suit Hotta. It picked up tremendously in the 2nd half when they started running and flying to suit Suzuka's style. Hotta had some athleticism and could be exciting in these days when she wanted to be. ***
Manami Toyota & Debbie Malenko vs. Takako Inoue & Mariko Yoshida. Uneven match that had its ups and downs. Toyota was really good since it was fast-paced, but Malenko's execution wasn't too impressive. They worked well together as a team and the opposition was was pretty good. **1/4
'91 Tag League The Best Yushosen advance Ketteisen: Bull Nakano & Akira Hokuto vs. Aja Kong & Bison Kimura. Not surprisingly, this was a brawl with the heat on Aja vs. Bull. Bull was very intense, focused, and fired up. No one else came close to matching her performance though. Hokuto kind of stayed out of the way because she wasn't involved in this fued, but I expected more from Aja & Bison. There were some highlights like Bull climbing up the ropes and taking the opposition out with a plancha then holding them so Hokuto could give them a missile kick to the floor, but the execution could have been better and the match never seemed to click. ***
Tag League The Best '91 Yushosen: Toshiyo Yamada & Kyoko Inoue vs. Aja Kong & Bison Kimura. Aja & Bison aren't the best suited to work two 20+ minute matches in a row. Bison stepped up for the final though. The match seemed rather directionless, but Yamada & Kyoko had moments of excellence. The teamwork was good, and at times they made these spots add to the drama. Unfortunately, it took a long time for there to be any drama, and even then it was more something that occurred because the tag final had been going on a long time. ***1/4
