This tape is a string of highlights of the best and/or most important FMW women's matches and angles in the given time period. The Kudo vs. Ozaki No Rope Barbed Wire Barricade Double Hell Death Match is an excellent ****1/4 death match. It doesn't have the drama of Combat's retirement match, and you can't really tell much about the build, but it's the best women's death match for workrate and crazy bumps, if not the best women's death match ever. The rest of the tape pretty much shows how bad the FMW women's division really is as the only quality stuff comes when Kudo has an interpromotional match, and some of them aren't even good.

Rocky Mountain Middleweight Title: Hayato Nanjyo vs. Ricky Fuji. Edited to hell. Appeared to just be an exhibition of spots, and a good one because Hayato was really off. Fuji wins title.
Hideki Hosaka vs. Tetsuhiro Kuroda. All spots, but the work was pretty good.
Shark & Lioness & Eagle vs. Crusher & Mongol & Okino. Some stiff work, but nothing complex. Better than I expected, but far from good.
Gladiator & Super Leather vs. HeadHunters. Another exhibition of spots. Gladiator looked good, but Hunters can't work anymore.
Kodo Fuyuki vs. Hido. They did all their big moves for near falls and the work wasn't bad, but it was dull and had no heat. This may have been the best match of the first 6, which says little.
Hayabusa & Shinzaki vs. Oya & Gannosuke. Very good match. No build, psychology, or selling, but work was really good. All kinds of great and well-executed spots.
No Rope 200-Volt Exploding Electrical Barbed Wire Death Match: Kanemura vs. Tanaka. Work was good, as always, but the selling sucked. Too many powerbombs and too steeped in spots. Not a bad match by any means, but not nearly as good as last year's Shiodome match.

10,000,000-en Street Fight (Royal Rumble style) Battle Royal. Beyond awful. This was so disorganized that it was like they were all rookies trying to do the whole thing on the fly. Offense was horrible with bad strikes, blown spots, and no intensity. Plus there were guys just standing around and doing nothing. -***
Kaori Nakayama & Miwa Sato vs. Crusher Maedomari & Miss Mongol. Mongol & Kaori do a decent job, but Miwa, and especially Crusher, take the match down. *
World Brass Knuckles Tag Titles: Hisakatsu Oya & Mr. Gannosuke vs. Jado & Gedo (Fuyuki Promotions). Good solid match. Everyone worked hard, but there was no heat until the very end. **1/2
WWA World Women's Title & Independent World Women's Title Women's Kenka Match: Shark Tsuchiya vs. Aja Kong (Free). I never thought I'd see the day when I was embarrassed to be an Aja fan. Then again, I never thought I'd see her prostitute herself to Tsuchiya and cronies. There wasn't any blown spots, but still words cannot describe the suckiness of this incredibly one-sided squash. Shark takes both titles. -**
NWA Texas Heavyweight Title: Terry Funk (F.M.W.) vs. Kodo Fuyuki (Fuyuki Promotions). About what you would expect with Funk being ok and Fuyuki sucking as usual. Fuyuki actually does a plancha. *
UFC Rules: Ken Shamrock vs. Vader. These two were so over that Yuki Ishikawa of Battlarts, who was the ref for this match, got the biggest pre-match pop. This was pretty good at points, but the match had to be stopped early because Shamrock was coughing up blood. *3/4

No Rope Barbed Wire Electrified Dynamite Land Mines Cage Time Bomb Death Match: Atsushi Onita vs. W*ING Kanemura. This match couldn't come close to following the previous two (Kobashi's match didn't make the Comm). It was well booked, but there was absolutely no heat so it came off flat. The explosions were cool, but the actual wrestling was terrible. *1/2

World Brass Knuckles Tag Titles: Mr. Gannosuke & Yukihiro Kanemura (ZEN) vs. Hayabusa & Jinsei Shinzaki (Michinoku Pro, but representing FMW here). Good work. Lots of cool spots. Selling wasn't much. Finish came out of nowhere. Good match.
Masato Tanaka (FMW) vs. Atsushi Onita (ZEN). Both men looked good here. Onita thinks he's Bret Hart, but his offense isn't low impact here so I'm not going to complain. Crowd was very pro Tanaka. Tanaka had Onita just about beat, but Onita turned his roaring elbow into a small package for pin. Finish sounds bad on paper, but in actuality it was the closest Tanaka could come to winning without actually doing so. Good match.

Double Title Match, Independent World Heavyweight & World Brass Knuckles Title: Tanaka vs. Kanemura. A lot of big spots, but overall, they've done a lot better matches in the past.
Sabu vs. Sandman. Garbage.
Gladiator & Hido vs. Funk & Dreamer vs. Dudleys. A couple of good spots and a ton of bad wrestling.
War Games Cage Match: Hayabusa & Shinzaki & Tanaka vs. Onita & Gannosuke & Kanemura. This had slightly different rules than WCW as each team gets a new guy each period instead of one team always having a man advantage. Also, it was only one cage. Exciting for a cage match with a lot of gimmick spots, but a match with no psychology and not much of a storyline the match gets old quick. Tanaka again came close to putting Onita away, but finally it was Hayabusa that did it by moonsaulting off the top of the cage!
This tape has highlights of the important matches and angles from this 3-month span, including the match where Gannosuke wins the Independent World Title from Tanaka. It also has the following 3 matches in close to complete form.
3/13/98 Sapporo Nakajima Taiiku Center Independent World & World Brass Knuckles #1 Contender Tournament Round 1: Masato Tanaka vs. Hayabusa. These two really tried to do a solid match. Tanaka was really good here, getting more out of Hayabusa than anyone else in FMW can. Hayabusa was working on Tanaka's arm, and he even focused his high spots on the arm when they left the mat. ***3/4
3/13: Mr. Gannosuke & Yukihiro Kanemura & Hido & Horace Boulder vs. Atsushi Onita & Koji Nakagawa & Tetsuhiro Kuroda & Hideki Hosaka. Chaotic brawl. Not so very good. Onita does the job here.
3/17/98 Tokyo Korakuen Hall Independent World & World Brass Knuckles #1 Contender Tournament Round 1: Hayabusa vs. The Gladiator. This shows how good Tanaka is because these have both had very good matches with him of late, but when you take him out of the mix you get a spotfest. Certainly the spots were cool, but it was spots from start to finish with no build or psychology. **1/2

Independent World Sekai Heavykyu Senshuken: Masato Tanaka vs. Mr. Gannosuke. I'm not a fan of the heel ref gimmick (in this case Fuyuki), but that along with Gannosuke trying to take away the elbow arm helped give this match a dramatic storyline to go along with the expected high level of work and spots. ****

Hayabusa Last Match Sekai Brass Knuckle Senshukenjiai: Hayabusa vs. Mr. Gannosuke. The match itself was good, but disappointing because Gannosuke fell into Hayabusa's spots, spots, spots, and more spots style instead of trying to instill any psychology to give the spots even a little meaning. I was hoping they'd try to build on their previous matches, but since this one was soley Hayabusa's style, it wasn't the well rounded match we saw from them on 4/30/98. What little potential it still had of being an improvement on that match went out the window due to Hayabusa botching up spots. Although it was Hayabusa's style, Gannosuke was still the one who had a very good showing, holding the match together and keeping the quality up. He even did the best and certainly the most dangerous spot of the match, a reverse fire thunder off the turnbuckle. The post match where Gannosuke rips all of Hayabusa's clothes off is the most reprehensible thing I've seen in Japan from 1999, but I haven't seen many of FMW's other pitiful unentertaining non-sport rip offs. ***1/4

H & Tetsuhiro Kuroda & Flying Kid Ichihara & Yoshinori Sasaki vs. Hayabusa & Koji Nakagawa & Gedo & Chocoball Mukai. Mukai was a mystery partner. Hayabusa put a dog collar with a chain around Sena Wakana's neck and was ready to abuse her when Mukai hit his own teammate to make the save. Hayabusa super powerbombed Mukai for his trouble. Kuroda was driven in later on a motorcyle, but he cleaned house when he finally got there. 7:05 shown
10/29/99 Tokyo Korakuen Hall
Komon Bakuha Match: H vs. Hayabusa. Hayabusa powerbombed him on the floor and H sold it uncharacteristically big. Hayabusa could have pinned him, but instead he handcuffed him to the ropes, pulled his pants down, shoved a "firecracker" up his ass, and "blew him a new hole." At this point, the ref ruled it a no contest. This match could have used one more big spot to set up H's demise only because H isn't known for really putting a move over, even a powerbomb on the floor.
Naohiro Yamazaki vs. Yoshinori Sasaki. Surprisingly good. 3:48 shown
Handicap Match: Kaori Nakayama & Emi Motokawa vs. Miss Mongol. Jazz & Malia Hosaka interfered on Mongol's behalf. 1:49 shown
Kakutogisen: Hido vs. Tarek Paska. This was hilariously bad with Tarek ridiculously overselling everything. Willy Williams had said that he'd fight Hido if he could beat Paska, so after the match he agreed to face him the next month at Yokohama Arena. 2:01 shown
Sena Wakana Puroresu Debutsen Man & Woman Mixed Handicap Tag Match: Gedo vs. Flying Kid Ichihara & Chocoball Mukai & Sena Wakana. Ricky Fuji was the ref and they worked in a good spot where Gedo wound up in kamikaze position, so Fuji gave him his move. The finish was lame with Sena putting over a chumpy little Kintaro Oki headbutt like it killed her. It was nothing special prior to that either.
Captain Fall 8 Man Tag Match: Kodo Fuyuki & Kintaro Kanemura & Koji Nakagawa & Jado vs. Masato Tanaka & Tetsuhiro Kuroda & Hisakatsu Oya & Ricky Fuji. This started out as the contract signing for Fuyuki vs. Tanaka at Yokohama Arena, but Fuyuki dumped the table at Tanaka and everyone started brawling. Fuji was locked in a cage and Kaoruko Arai sprayed him with a super soaker to piss him off. Kanemura hg tied Oya. Without his partners, Tanaka was destroyed in the ring, mainly by Fuyuki. Bloody brawl. Hardly the best technical match you'll ever see, but it was dramatic and great for heating up Fuyuki vs. Tanaka.
